Alfred vs WardenCam vs Call Pet: accounts, recording and pet calls
Compare account requirements, local and cloud recordings, and voice versus two-way video using official product documents.
| Task | AlfredCamera | WardenCam | Call Pet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account and pairing | Guest Access Mode supports core use without registration. An account adds features such as role switching and sharing. | The official setup uses the same Google account on both devices. | No Call Pet account for QR pairing: the Monitor shows the code; the Controller scans it. |
| Recordings | Continuous Recording uses camera-device storage with a rolling playback window; remote Playback requires Premium. Event cloud storage is a separate feature. | The official listing describes recordings in the user’s Google Drive or Dropbox. | No Call Pet cloud video storage. Apple 1.7.0 adds optional local Monitor 24/7 recording/playback; manual Controller recording is separate. Check build, device and plan. |
| Speaking or appearing on screen | Talk provides two-way audio, like a walkie-talkie. | The listing describes two-way audio. | Two-way video can show the owner on the pet-facing screen; Controller-side Pro eligibility applies. Audio alone is not two-way video. |
Live transmission is different from recording storage
Alfred documents direct P2P with a relay fallback. Call Pet uses encrypted WebRTC, preferring direct connections with TURN relaying encrypted media when needed; TURN has no media decryption keys. The WardenCam sources describe recording destinations, not every live-media path. Cloud storage alone does not prove that all live video travels through a vendor’s servers.
Choose for the task
Check Alfred’s current alert and recording options if event history matters. Consider WardenCam for Drive/Dropbox archiving. Consider Call Pet for account-free pairing, local recordings on supported builds, or pet-facing two-way video. Compatible Apple devices need iOS/iPadOS 15+; full Android supports both roles, while the earlier camera-only app does not. Keep the Monitor powered and the app in the foreground.
Official documents checked 2026-11-02; WardenCam’s Play listing shows an update date of 2023-06-17. Features may vary by version and plan.
